My colleagues have signed me a sympathy card from them all. Is it appropriate to send an e-mail him a blank check or a note for longer appropriate. Please share.

An e-mail thank you is fine. Written with the hand is always better, of course, but email works well in this case.

You need to do anything. If the card is moving and feels obliged to thank them no doubt, but the view is best for you. But not the common label, required. If you receive a gift that would be a different answer, but for a card ready.

10 years ago, the e-mail is probably too impersonal and a handwritten note, which never go out of fashion. Today, however, I think, is an e-mail is acceptable.
